Cause And Effect Of Technology

"My technology-free day was a nightmare," exclaims one student at the very beginning of her final presentation on technology, nature, and her inner experiences of both. This exclamation has amused me so much that I have repeated it often through the day when describing this project to other students and colleagues at Saint Francis University, a small university tucked into the hills of the Allegheny mountains in central Pennsylvania.

We can do better than that! technology is good when used for the right reasons. People are not machines. We are sentient beings that require love and personal relationships in order to advance and develop into our higher potential.

In our culture, most of us have become dependent on communication technology in some form or another. And most of us have become dependent on that technology without being aware of how much we rely on it. For example, we text friends, we blog and we 'Facebook' (and create a new verb in the process). With college students, I am amazed, and secretly touched, by how often they call their parents. Many students claimed to call their parents every single day. Others said they called their parents, usually their mom, between each & every class. Some students complained about missing meetings or practices without technology (apparently, their schedule changes each day & this is how they are informed).

This is probably the most important sin and should have been on the top of the list. But when writing this it just came out at this spot. As a business owner myself, I know how hard it is to make the money we earn and we need to be sure that if we are going to invest in anything, we need to make sure to use it. This not only means the business owner, but as the leader, the owner needs to be sure that his employees are on board. That they understand the investment and that they too are part of the team. They must feel ownership of this new technology and help to bring it on board. Employees, in general, tends to be scared, intimidated, afraid of new technology. The status quo is just easier and more comfortable.

In the early part of the last century, much of the technology that we use today would be considered witchcraft... machines that fly not only across the globe more info but into space! Moving pictures? Mobile phones? Can you imagine the reaction to all of these?

Each year, we hear of families devastated because a daughter, sister, child was killed, and her friends with her, because an inexperienced driver was texting, InSync takes this danger away. InSync a high school girl can text while she is driving. InSync is a game changing software when placed in a car. With the addition of InSync, Ford as redefined the auto market. No longer is a car a means of transportation. With InSync, a car has now become a powerful social media platform brand, on a plain with Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. InSync has allowed Ford to have the potential to become the pre-eminent brand in Social Media.

With every serve of a Rafael Nadal with his Babolat XS 109 racquet or the return by a Roger Federer, we the common man watch wordless spell-bound by the to-and-fro movement of the sparkling white ball gasping at every missed ball or a wrong second serve. Clapping joyously when our player wins the contest, happy at having witnessed some great tennis, admiring the sheer talent of the players and describing in leisure to younger generations what a game it was!
